Thanks.
I think someone was right.....show off's!

I used the Canon 10D w/the cheap $50 Sigma 28-80mm & the more expensive Canon 100mm Macro ($600). I sold my camera for now, because the newer/improved models are out. I am still debating on whether to go with the Canon 20D or the Olympus E-300.

I will put out the offer that when I get my new cam I can take pictures of your tanks (if you think you what it takes?) I am getting bored of taking shots of my tank & the LFS treat me as if I was a spy of some sort when I pull out my cam. All but 1 LFS allowed me to take shots. Others I would have to sneak a shot.

heuerfan, wow, nice! Anytime you can make browns purdy, you know how extra special they must be. What type of lighting do you use & what bulbs?

I borrowed someone elses cam for these, it's a Canon Powershot S230 3.2MP cam, so don't expect a whole lot from this cam.

No big secret really. With the S230 I shot in macro mode & adjusted white balance to -1 to -2. I also turned flash off.

OH, & there was one big thing. When I first started taking shots with this camera they came out like crap. I have T5's with the blue+ bulbs & the pictures would have a blue hue to them in auto WB mode. So I tried out Incandescent mode & seems to have worked.

With this cam seems like the color is there, but not the sharpness. I am a big sharpness fan. Although, tank photography is by far the hardest. Take a look at some of my stationary shots & you will see what I mean (ah there goes the horn tooting again).

See when you compare the above shots to the S230 you realize that tank photography is not all that easy & that the s230 is a piece of junk!

Also, I don't want to bad mouth about any LFS, but I will tell you that the one that let me take pics is this one:

Don't know about all cams, but most cams do have some type of white balance setting. What is cool about the canon powershot series is that you can adjust the WB & it will show you what the frame looks like on the LCD. No need to take a pic first!

So you would scroll through the various modes, cloudy, sun, bulb, incandescent...etc & find the best fit. On my 10D you can actually go in & adjust the Kelvin setting, allowing for more control & personal bias.

Thanks.
Keep in mind that you are seing best of the bunch. So for every 1 pic that is worthy of display, I can show you a lot more that are in the recycling bin.

Keep those pics coming, I thought we were starting a pic thread?
