hi guys i just got a remora hob skimmer..it didn't come with a pump..i have a powerhead 402..and i belive a 702? laying around would those be okay for a 6 gallon tank?
The smaller Remora runs with a Maxi-jet 1200, which does about 295gph. The 402 does 270pgh and I think you mean 802, which does 400gph. I would go with the large pump as the remora work better with larger pump.
If you going to put this on a 6gal tank the weight from the skimmer will probably cause the tank to flip over. Also the Remora is pretty tall and needs about a tank that is atleas 1' if not more.
no..i have the model powerhead 402 ..i don't think it will flip over the tank...6 gallons is alot of water..plus live rock and coral...remora is a little taller..but i can alwas use more tubing to make sure the pump reaches out of the tank..or i could lean it off the edge...either way it is possible..
In order to make sure the remora is level you need to adjust the screw, which are on the bottom of the skimmer, against the glass of the tank. If the skimmer isn't level it can and will flip the tank over, don't forget the skimmer is going to be filled with water also. All that weight going against the tank isn't a good idea and is just an accident waiting to happen.
Your better off getting another skimmer. Also in a tank that small you really don't need a skimmer, specially one that size. Water change will acomplish what a skimmer would.
The higher the ring, the lower the cup, the wetter the foam. It's a good idea to start with the ring on the bottom - and the cup high: this way you won't come home to find it spilling over. And then slowly bring the cup down until you're happy with the amount and type of skimming.
