Went to Manhattan Aquarium today because they have a banner on MR stating "will BEAT any price on H2O salt mix" but much to my surprise this was NOT the case. The first time I went they said they won't be able to beat another competitor price unless I brought proof. Which is understandable and I didn't have my iPad to look it up to provide proof and ended up paying regular price that day. So today I went again but I brought proof of MARINE DEPOT'S advertised price for the H2O salt mix. They now say that they can't BEAT the price they can only PRICE MATCH. Their justification was that they can only match it because of the "shipping cost". I am not crying over a dollar here or a dollar there but it's just the principal of the matter that they are advertising something but not actually honoring it. I am driving into manhattan from north Yonkers which is out of my way.

after adding in shipping MA price is probably better. Even if not, they support the community (donated a lot of stuff to my school), hire a lot of good people (many from this site) and I would rather support local businesses but to each his/her own. I understand being upset but also be reasonable with expectations when comparing online to brick and mortar.

Yeah... also factor in. You received your product when you wanted it. If you wanted to wait a few extra days then you should have just ordered it online.
I don't mind paying a few extra dollars knowing I have a tangible object in my hands at the moment I want it. Sure I can pay less then I have to deal with waiting... then if UPS/Fedex doesnt make it, or I miss the delivery... then I would be assed out an extra day.
So they did a stand up thing by matching it. I don't see a problem.

good stores are so few and far between that you have to travel that far... support local shops that support us = good for local reefers. If everybody goes online to save a couple bucks and eventually youll be driving pretty far to see any healthy livestock, MA is a maintenance company that supports the hobby by pretty much opening up its showroom. I don't know the financials but I am pretty sure that the fragging and hobby business they do is a small part of their income. New world was around a long time and look what happened to them because they were not even close to matching any prices and brick and mortar stores in this area are very hard to make money with, MA is pretty great in my book and I appreciate being able to go there and talk with knowledgeable reefers even if I am not buying anything...

This type of thing is happening all over, call it the walmart effect. It is one of the many reasons this country is in a downward spiral.

Yeah principal is always trumped by saving$$$ times are hard and keeping the reef alive is my objective , keep the conversations and pass the discount , dont get me wrong i love m.a. But i love my money more

still dont understand what your not getting here.your 7 miles away and only have to pay for gas.if you went in the morning on a weekend you personally are getting a better deal then marine depot.i see where kenconnect is coming from but you are getting a better deal just driving there on the weekend if they match marine depots price

Duke look at the add, 99 bucks , you get a bucket of h20 , a digi thermometer, a maxi jet 1200 , a hydor 200 watt heater and a refractometer!! And just like group buys , if you get another person to get in on it with you , you exceed the 175 needed for free shipping!!
And the hosing for the maxijet may i add , even if you sold all the other stuff you can end up getting the salt for free!
