I need to get light for my fuge. I have heard of people simply using a basic light bulb and a cheap reflector from home depot. What are your thoughts. I was thinking of using one of the led bulbs (that you would use in recessed lighting). Would that work, I'm trying to keep heat down.

Ant your every where on MR this weekend and today lol J.K as for the light fuge I'm am using a home depot light bulb and those clap lamps thingys lol. Listen imo it as saved me from spenting 70 on buying a fuge light on online. And its almost the same watt of light just have to purchase the right bulb. You should spending less then 20 in home depot. But its up to you if you want to spent more when you are going to get the same results.

I would check to see if they are made to be used for the time you want to use them. high pwered LEDs can get a lot hotter than than CFL if they are not properly designed to dissipate the heat.

I'm sure the clamp on lights and CFL bulb is cheaper option, I heard 5000k is good for 'fuge.

Anyone have issues lighting anypart of their setup with cheap bulbs for 16 hours? After a few days-weeks i get unwanted algae there.

My levels are all 0 and i run gfo. I just think its the algae producing light on for too long. But 14-16 hours is reverse my main lights.

Let me know how that goes for u 36.

Just make sure the light range of the bulb is 5k to 6k. Usually in small print on the back of the package..
If u do clamp on's, depending on length of sump, u might need 2.
