Providing they have all the same components--micron filter, carbon block, RO then DI plus an in-line TDS meter, they are for all practical purposes the same. Given that fact, I'd get a unit from either Air, Water, Ice, The Filter Guys, or Bulk Reef supply because they offer good customer service and support this site.
The salt question is more of a can of worms and has been re-hashed here a thousand times. Currently, the high-end salts of preference seem to be ESV and D-D H2Ocean. You'll find lots of people happy and unhappy ith both of these and every other major brand. The truth is IMO, if you are a good reef keeper, it doesn't really make that much of a difference-- lots and lots of world-class reefs using plain old Instant Ocean.

Air water ice makes great typhoon rodi units and usualy include the tds meter , as for salt just as prattreef stated , its a big debate that can go on forever lol i use h20 cause its clean and dissolves very quickly and it does its job, but esv in my opinion is what a greeat majority of the guys out here are using , choose what u want and switch it later on if your not happy with its results , the best thing you can do is to get insight from other reefers and follow your gut feeling, a great reefer is not born that way, a great reefer develops his or her craft over time!.

Dont buy a used one.sure you will get a great deal but you will need to replace everything which will cost you as much as a new one.unless someone is selling one for 20 bucks its not worth it.

Bulk Reff Supply has nice units and so does Kent but Kent is pricey. Salt is just as stated so just choose one for reef for the extra calcium and mag.

Gotta disagree about the only buying new idea. A good 5 stage can be picked up used for $50-75. I just bought a complete 5 stage filter set w a new membrane for $68 and that included a bag of DI resin. KathyC was selling a REALLY nice 5 stage for $75. You'd be hard pressed to find a good quality 5 stage new w filters and built in TDS for less than the cost of a nice used unit if you shop and wait. I found a mint used typhoon 5 stage for $40. I added a inline TDs for $12 an a gauge for $6. New is nice but not always the way you need to go. JMO

Well now bobby ya got a point with that as well , but u got some good deal right there just by having the new membranes come in the deal you got, lets not forget that you also got your grubby mittens on a I-tech skimmer not too long ago lol luck is all over you lol .

Surprised nobody mentioned spectrapure. Unit are expensive I use it and it's great. If you got with them, also buy the zetazorb filter, which it has been tested with new york water, which are not as clean as people think. Also regarding ESV salt, it's great and gives you the best parameters, but it comes with two boxes, one box is pure salt, the other box has the chemicals for YOU to mix so that the water reaches the desired levels. If i confused you, youtube esv salt and you'll see.

you got lucky plus your dealing with kathyc who is an honest lady but most used ro/di are not like yours.most need new membrane 50 bucks.new filters another 25 bucks and di if refillable is like 10 bucks and if it dont have a tds another 25 to 30 bucks so if your buying a used 5 stage ro/di used for 75 bucks there is no savings and your overpaying..s like i said if yu want a used one its not worth the aggrevation unkless you pick one up for 20 bucks

I didn't get mine from Kathy but another MR member. This is a Non-Mechanical device so buying used is usually not an issue. What's going to wear out besides the filters? Most of us in this hobby are pretty careful with our equipment so most need only a soak in water to look like new again.
As far as filters go I don't know where your getting yours from but your paying too much. I just ordered:

Yes I got a good deal but there are LOTS of good deals to be had if you have a bit of time to look around.
It would be NUTS for me to pull my unit off the wall, disconnect my ATO setup, my water change mixing setup and than re-install everything each time my filters needed to be changed. Everyone is different I guess.
