Having floors redoen in the house - tank prep?

Hello,

We are having our hardwood floors redone/replaced upstairs and on our stairs gong to the lower level. Downstairs is where our reef tank is. While there is a door there the door will be opened when they are sanding the stairs/staining/coating.

What should i do to prep the tank? I am thinking of putting some sort of plastic tarp around the tank and turning off the skimmer so the fumes do not get mixed into the water.

Any tips?

You have the right idea. I would just add that when you wrap the tarp try to leave an air gap between the tarp and the top of the tank so that there is some gas exchange going on from surface agitation. Absolutely turn the skimmer off.

In addition I would go get an aquarium air pum with a long run of air tube and run the tubw under the tarp and place the pump outside. This way positive pressure will keep the fumes out and fresh air being pumped in.
