Do you have a sump? If so, AquaC Urchin. If not, AquaC Remora. If you do decide to buy them online, I can help you make it super silent... doesn't involve much hard work at all... or you can go with other suggestions :) Good luck starting your 50 breeder.

I think your thread is on the wrong section of the forum xD

The performance isn't even in the same league as other skimmers. Even a Tunze 9002 will easily double the performance of an Aqua C, and will do it much quieter and more efficiently.
I used one a long time ago (probably 2006 or so), and my father has one on his FOWLR tank (bought the whole setup used and it came with it..) now. I just can't recommend them to anyone. :(

IMO/IME Aqua C is not so great. 10 years ago it was a good option. The spray injection wanna-be beckett skimmer is just plain weak. In a 50 gal tank you want more skimming power. I wold choose some type of needle wheel skimmer that will suck around 500lph (should say in airflow specs of skimmer)

Absolutely! Rich knows what he is talking about. He will not lead you astray when it comes to skimmer information.

so can you recommend one thats HOB and better than the remora? and doesn't the skimming power depends on which powerhead you use with the Remora? Mag 3 for instance, is rated for 40 - 120 gallons.

Bermuda made one. Alao the deltec mce series was popular. Coralife has one as well.

with the exception of the Sea Clone, the Prizm, and the Coralife SS, I can't think of a skimmer that's worse, honestly.

Tunze 9002 is better but not large enough for a 50 gallon. You might look at the 9010. That's not HOB, but you don't need a sump.

In addition, the Deltec MCE series, AquaMaxx HOB (same as the Warner Marine H2/H1, which are great HOB's) will work well... the newer Octopus HOB's are good..

thanks, I plan on using a HOB on my 55g, along with a HOB refugium.

What size is the skimmer area in your sump? That will pretty much govern the size of the skimmer due to the footprint. Also headroom will also be a factor so keep this in mind.
