No more filter socks.....?????

I installed a custom drip tray that the drain empties into. Just put the floss on top of the drip tray and replace.

How do you use filter floss in a sump?

i wanna try this but i have fine sand, that i always find in my filter sock. i wont want sand in my return pump i have enough stuff to clean already

For some reason my sand still ends up in my sump even with a filter sock.

I prefer having multiple filter socks. When five or six of them are dirty I turn them inside out, throw them in the washing machine, add a few cups of chlorox and 20 minutes later I put them out to dry. It takes me 5 minutes of actual work and I always have clean filter socks available.

I didn't use any filter sock for well over 7 years and never found it to be any problem at all. Even after I started to use them it would be only when i was doing some maintenance in the tank and wanted to catch stuff I was throwing into the water column. I am currently using them just to clean up the water but, if you siphon your sump once in a while when doing a water change I don't see any issues at all.

In the long run I think they are a pain to maintain, easy to run long term without.
