hey guys, one of the fish i got from the photo shoot is an Oxymonacanthus longirostris. a long beaked leather jacket, or orange spotted file fish. guess what? it only eats coral polyps. guess who sold it to a photo stylist who knew nothing about fish, that's right our favorite manhattan reef store. So here's the deal I had one person on MR who wanted to take the fish, but I had not id'ed it properly so I'm not sure he can take care of it. In the meantime I don't want the fish to starve. I know this is a crazy request but would anyone donate some acro coral frags to see if it will live. I only have one acro in my tank, and it's still just a frag itself. here is a link to the fish, it's really cool looking and I want to save it from certain death.

cali-reef I can meet you. I'm sure it only eats acro's, though some have reported it to eat mysis shrimp. I'm going to try to get it some frozen mysis.

Guy's I just figured out what kind of fish it was today, and also discovered it's diet. The store that sold it was New World. I did not buy it from the store, my friend did, indirectly. I would bring it back to the store if I thought it would live there, I doubt it would. Can you help me try to find a home for it soon? I'm going to do some more reading on it, but it seems this is the last fish that should be sold in the aquarium trade. It really is a beautiful fish, and does have a personality, I do not want to see it starve to death. I'm tempted to put it in my tank and see what it eats, if anything, but I don't want my one acro to be decimated either.

wow, I just fed the filefish some frozen formula one, and it ate some of it! It's looking kind of weak, I don't know when it last ate, but I'm going to try and nurse it back to full strength.

cali-reef, we can hold off on the acro frags for now, but I may need them in the near future, thanks to much!

hey Cali, thanks, the filefish is now with another MR member in a FO 420 gallon tank, I hope he is happy.
I did get him to eat! He liked formula one, and the dried sea veggies. I hope that is enough to sustain him. In the short time I was able to feed him he even put on a little weight.

The sad part is that they live in pairs in the wild or little groups together, for a fish he seemed rather smart and aware of his surroundings. I really hope he is okay by himself.
They spend their lives living in the acropra branches and happily eating the sps polyps. In the tank with only live rock we hope he will do okay. I may ask for frags for him in the near future. We'll see how he does. Thanks again for the offer!

How long did it take for him to start eating? The last time I was there, he wasn't eating, and you got him like 3 or days before I went.

So I guess he felt better and started eating again, huh..Great job..
