I have chaeto in my refugium and its been growing for awhile but since i started running GFO its starting to turn white. my phosphates are 0 and my nitrates have always been 0 so i have a pretty low nutrient system the only algae i have is this stuff that grows on the sand that wont go away no matter what i do. is their anything else that i could put in a refugium that benefits the system or should i just throw a bunch of live rock in their.

Is it a HOB or an in tank fuge? But either way you can put live sand, live rock and some caulerpa or mangrove depending on the fuge. Do your research on the benefits of each and plants you can add there's a variety out there.

i had it checked with a hannah checker and it came out 0 and as far as i know thats the most accuarate test kit,

How many test were ran through the Hannah Checker? If you only did one, it is very likely that it was a false reading.
I have had test come back 0, then ran 2 more back to back, and got 0.05 & 0.04.;) All done within a minute or two.

Unless done wrong, a Hannah check of "so called "zero" is enough to assume low enough phosphate for most reef applications.

GFO is known to do that to macro's because they also take out other elements and minerals that the macros need.

You can send a pic of the other algae you cannot get rid of to John with Reefcleaners to see whether he has something that can take care of the particular algae.

Seems you have enough nutrients to grow some kinds of algae.
I have heard of cheato being tough to grow in some systems and I think a truer test is to try growing caluerpa. I have never heard of that not growing.

Assuming you have a light over it. Most macros that I know of need a light source to grow.
