Glass cracked in lighting fixture

I get home last night and the glass on my lighting fixture is cracked and was fine in the morning when I left. It get's hot, but not hot enough where I can't keep my hand on it for a while. There's no water splashing, etc. I wouldn't want to replace it just to have it crack again.

Any thoughts of what could have caused it to crack?

Hmm..I read somewhere that the glass is needed because the DE bulbs give off harmful UV to the corals.

Yup definitely need the glass. Thankfully it cracked in almost a straight line (weird I know) so the glass is still sitting in place until i can get a new one piece in place.

I'm just going to run the T-5s for now since nothing is in the tank.

Should I go with tempered glass for the fixture or does it not matter?

I'm also going to go with two pieces of glass, instead of 1 long piece.

I DEFINITELY would not do tempered- if it cracks again, you're going to have a possibility of 1,000 pieces of glass in your tank.

leave it alone dont take it of i did that last week to my lights and i had to order new lights on sat the evaporated water got to my lights and turned it on fire so leave the glass on until you buy a new one but i would just leave it alone until it breaks more
