Ive been using my fluval 404 on my 75gallon reef for a while.. not running any pads or biomax or anything in there .. just carbon... it makes the water so much clearer...Is there anything else you guys recommend using in there like phosban, nitrate sponge, etc.... or do you think i should just stop using the fluval totally..??

i think if you did one would have to go before the other.. correct me if im wrong...
i also think it was discussed on another thread that if phosban was not in a reactor it will clump up and be useless after a week or so....

dont see anything wrong wit the fluval if you keep it clean and do ur regular husbandry.

would it have to have lets say the bottom layer be carbon 2nd layer from the top be phosban and the 1st layer the top be rwosa.... just so its more effective..

Phosban and Rowaphos are both used for the same purpose, removing PO4 (phosphates). You'd only need to use one of them.

Using either of them in a Fluval would be very ineffective. The reason for this is that the carbon and PO4 removal media require different flow rates. Carbon is very effective in a high flow application. Rowa &/or Phosb is most effective in a low flow, fluidized media chamber. The flow should be set so that only the very top layer of media GENTLY tumbles in the flow. You do NOT want to have the media suspended aggressively in the flow (like in a Fluval).
