Anyone know what this is? Small hairlike what seems to be algae growing off a piece of live rock.. It is white in color

You may scratch your hand in there. If they are dead u can just break them off manually.

ok thanks for the help. I've never noticed them before today. they seem to be flowing with the current much as hair algae would so I'm going to assume they're still alive.

They are great filter feeders. I had hundreds of them but my copperband butterfly ate them all and now they are just empty tubes!
