Use 40-50lb test fishing line and use Ic gel on the knots...thanks for the heads up, was planning on using them next week
drill your rocks and use acrylic rods, it's your safest bet.
Zipties are bad for rockwork and i'll go one step further, they are no good in saltwater environment. Even if you use 10 zipties they will eventually fail. I'll say they'll last about 4-5 years. At this time an average reefer will have a few large coral colonies and lots of coral frags. Weight have nothing to do with it. They're just no good for saltwater period...also... i would use more than 1 zip tie. zip ties aren't necessarily bad, you just need more to support more weight

save yourself the worry and potential headache and do it right the first time. Zip ties like jimmy said will weaken over time. Get a 1/2inch masonary drill bit, 6 ft of acrylic rod and you're all set.
