anybody know what kind of coral this is?

Hey guys i picked this up at my lfs and not quite sure what it is. It has a hard skelton but it has tiny soft polys coming out any ideas ?

I think it may be Cyphestrea or unhappy gonipora (usually has longer stalks).
Why did they not tell you what it was?

they had it in a frag tank and they weret sure what it was it might be unhappy but only had him in my tank for a day

Ty but the only thing I noticed is if it is indeed a gonipora it would have some polyp extention these arnt extending at all is there some gonipora that don't extend ?

goniopora is not an easy coral to keep, as they are short lived in aquaria... and by far not for a starting tank. the goni does not look happy in your tank at all.

Just sayin.

I added a red goniopora to my at the time 3 month old nano. Didnt do well at all and had to sell it off. real hard to please they never want to open

It is definitely a red goniopora. Unfortunately, that's how it looks when it has it's polyps detracted. You picked a rather hard to keep coral that needs perfect parameters and feedings. I have one and I think it has to be fed SPS food in order to be well in the tank.
