Power lines to my house started arching, smoking and finally snapped. I have no power. Lent my generator to a friend without power and can't contact him. Gonna hold on as long as I can. Kinda in a panic now, the line sparked and came down. Don't know what I'm gonna do.
Well, it seems as if my house is the only one in the neighborhood that's out. Hopefully it stays that way. Im running an extension cord to my neighbors house. Running the tank off that.
I don't know exactly what cause them to arc. I was fine through Sandy. Maybe some damage was done during that storm. It happened on the line from the pole to the mast on my house. The line started smoking, then flashes from what appeared to be weaker spots in the line. At one point it caught on fire. It happened with the rain we got earlier. When the line was on fire it broke and came down. Now i have a live wire from the pole 10' from my front door. Called LIPA, got the automated system.
Got it back earlier today. But have to find some gas out here now. Just reached out to a friend at LIPA, he's gonna look into it and see what's up. (fingers crossed). It doesn't help my wife is 8 mos pregnant. Like I said, I'm hooked into the neighbors electric for now. Tank should be good as long as his doesn't go out as well.
(as far as not lending my generator out, it was to help a friend and his family while they had no power. I never lost mine through Sandy. We WERE lucky.) Thanks guys, I'll keep updating as this progresses.
No power yet. Still running off the neighbor. Tank temp at 74. Can't warm the house enough. Got the fireplace going. I know there are others out there that are worse off...but this still sucks.
Power just got restored! No losses, yet. Temp dropped down to 72F. Everybody looks good though. Haven't seen my mandarin through all this. Thanks guys and gals.
