i recently got a 250 watt maristar and had it about 6.5 inches from the water and had above a canopy. Everything died except for some zoos and clams. The maxima's seem to love it but the corcea started to brown out and is not a open as before. anyway the heat probably played a big role it in the deaths but im curious as to where people put their fixture and how far up or down do they put their acros. thx

I think you need to put light higher for first couple weeks to accumulate your corals. You put your light down little by little, so your coral get accumulate with new light. I also saw some people put couple layers of bug screen on top of the tank and they take out one layer a week to accumulate.

BTW, my MH's are about 8" from the water and planning to put it higher(10") due to heat issue.
