I just did an extensive amount of research on this exact topic..

And that brings me to my results , There are 3 products that I looked into, Gfo from bulk reef supply, Two Little fish Phosban, and D-D Rowaphos.
All three works the same and all three reduce's your phosphates , Only that one company claims that there product dose no leach back into your system and thats Rowaphos and yes there the most expensive to use.
From what I gather the problems arises as to when to change your media , when is the absorption rate filled and when dose the phosphates leach back into your system , this seems to be the only discussed issue.

Well thats the big question !! When to change . Phosphates are only entered into your system by You! From your food, Water, Sand,Rock, ect.
So it depends , Gfo say's every 4 - 8 weeks.. But that's all dependent on how much phosphates you entered into your system and how much media you use.
I myself will stick with Rowaphos just cause of there claims of not leaching back into your system. A few extra dollars in hobby like this dosn't hurt!

+1. I use GFO myself. Never did any research into the Rowaphos, but reading this it might be worth checking out. I change my GFO about every 6wks or so. BRS has some good pricing on it. Def gonna look into the Rowaphos though.

I've tried rowaphos and BRS and various other brands. I now use high capacity gfo from BRS. As long as you change the media when phosphate level out of the reactor is not reducing your tanks phosphate level.
I use a next reef media reactor and I have to change my gfo every two months on a 65 gallon tank. I maintain my tank at 0.03 on a Hanna photometer.
