I Help out at a LFS on Sundays, And I see way too many people wasting there money on buying equipment because they claim what they have isn't performing as they would like.
Ok I purchased a Tunze skimmer a few months back when I first hooked it up , It worked it skimmed and was externally clean looking , But I noticed it wasn't preforming like it should , Micro bubbles escaping into my display , skim mate not so dark.
I picked this skimmer up for a steal from the last owner. I'm assuming the last owner sold it because he noticed the same problems,
Well I broke down the skimmer took the pump out, the hydrofoamer,everything, and I cleaned it thoroughly , I Also cleaned all the hose's of lime deposits. Well after all this , This skimmer is preforming 100 and 10 percent better, the micro bubbles are not an issue and the skim mate is perfect for my liking..
Now recently I just bought a used Deltec Calcium reactor , If I told you the price you would be sick to your stomach, The original owner claimed it as a piece of ****. "LMAO" , Well first of all its a fluidized reactor , and media for fluidized reactor should be used, And He did not use the correct media, He had never cleaned it all , never used it as per deltec's instructions and got fed up with it and went back to dosing . If he only cleaned the reactor and used it as per instructions he would be extremely happy . Oh Well!
But my reason for this post is, if you take care of your equipment and clean it regularly it will last for years.
