I have just set up a 120xl elos aquarium and have put in nitrifying bacteria that called for a fish to cycle it. I used a clownfish from a previous tank. I would like to add one more and hopefully gave them pair up or at least not kill each other. Any suggestions?

Chances are the clown you used for the cycle is gonna be a vicious S.O.B He will most likely kill or go after any other clown you put in the tank. Usually when you wanna pair clowns, you start with 3-5 small clowns, put them in the tank together and keep an eye on them. Eventually 2 will pair up and you can get the rest out. This should be done in QT to have an easier chance of catching the others

1)To cycle your tank you don't need a live fish. You just have to put some fish food in.
2)Is your cycle done? If not remove the clownfish to a safer environment.
3)Do you have a running tank that cycle is done other than the 120elos? If so, remove your older clown over there.
4)If the 120elos, is done cycling, you get a new clown and put in there for at least 3-5(preferably the latter) days.
5)Then put the old fish in.

I agree with these guys and your first inhabitants should be a small cuc. But on the flip side a friend of mine used the same bacteria and added a clown pair a week later and their perfectly fine never seemed stressed at all. Seems as if the bacteria didnt allow the levels to spike as much as on a normal cycle. But i dont using additives to my tank other than trace elements. Good luck bro

I have had pretty good luck pairing up clowns after ive had the firat clown for a while in all my cases in mulitple species of clown I would always buy the smallest secound clown I could find and I mean tiny .what always happens is the older firat clown turns or stays female .the new small clown stays male the female excepts him right away ive done this with multiplw pairs of clarki and a few pairs of tomatoes which the female was very nasty I thought she would have killed the baby right away .she actually excepted him right away .my guess is when u get a ewal small one she dont feel threatened .oh and by the way all the clowns ive done this whith all have spawned .

I decided to try to pair one after all. I got a juvenile clown fish and put him in my tank. My original clown did not attack or even bother the new one and now they are inseparable. I got the juvenile so that it would appropriately change it's sex to pair up with my existing clown.
