Need Advice

In a week or 2 I will be moving to an Apartment complex that's 4 stories high. I will be moving into the 4th Floor. The floors are made out of concrete but will have hard wood floor on top of it. Im planning on upgrading from a 150 gallon tank to a 180 gallon tank but before i even buy the 180 gallon tank I'de like to know if the floor is able to support that size of a tank or is it to heavy? Anyone has any advice in regards to this? If the 180 is to heavy will a 125 or a 150 be ok? I want to keep a 6ft tank but am affraid the 180 gallons will be to much weight on the floor. Anyone Please give me some input on this. Thanks MR.

How many floors in the building? If the floor is Cement I dont think you'd have an issue. Is it a new building or an older building?

First off have you checked with the building to see if you can keep a fish tank in the apartment. I know some buildings take this as a risk to damage to the lower floors and won't allow it. I think that as long as the tank is up against a bearing wall, or exterior wall that it might be okay. But i am not an engineer to tell you this.

It is 4 stories high and the building was built in 1999.

As Richie already stated make sure the super gives you the blessing before you move the tank in.

On the weight thing. The fact that the building is lured concrete you're floor will support it I would say.

we can't say whether your floor will support it without knowing load bearing walls, and what direction beams run. like rkarog said speak with building owners and see whats under your floor (3rd flr). their really isn't much weight difference between 150 and 180, so i wouldn't let that be your deciding factor.

Well I got the thumbs up on being able to have the tank. Just need to know now if the floor will be able to support the weight. The 180 gallon is 2100lbs full n if thats to much i dont like the 150anymore cus of the 29" hight but i can deal with the 125 gallon which weighs 1400lbs full. I really want the 180 gallon though cus of the 24" back to front. Any more input on this? I will be checking with the super to see which direction the beams go. Slso the area where i want to put it is in the wall of the dinning room. Dont know if that makes a difference to where they would put more support in that area.

I wouldn't recommend anything above 180 gal on second floor or higher. But since you have cement floor you should be ok. Like stated see which way support beams are going. You can also put 1 inch plywood under tank stand spread weight across beams. Don't forget your going to add a sump to which bring you over 200 gals. Good luck....
