Ever thought of reusing your water?

I reuse water that I've taken out of my DT for cleaning equipment. I'll place it in a bucket and clean my powerheads, skimmer, media reactor, pretty much anything I would use tap or RO/DI water for.

I reuse the water from my reef tank on one of my smaller fish only tanks. The nitrate level is very low and this also lets me do weekly water changes on the tank without having to make new water.

Can we consider "not changing water for a year" as "reusing water" or just laziness?

I often do a "step down" series of water changes from my reef to other less demanding and less pristine systems.

Wayne Shang, who is the only guy on the planet with a 700 gallon reef filled with Ultra clams that spawn on a regular basis, says he does a 10% MONTHLY water change with old water from his fish only system, for the purpose of adding nitrates, which get consumed by clams and go back to zero in a few days. So you might say he never really does water changes, and his SPS are insane also.

interesting, I know ppl with enough space save the RO waste water and reuse for different things but you need to have a lot of extra space and barrels.

Just curious, do you schedule time to change water and clean equipment on the same day, doesn't used SW tank water rot if it sits still in a bucket

My ro waste water line my wife puts in the washing machine so Atleast some of it is used instead of right down the drain.

Once a month or so I do an intense cleaning and scrubbing of equipment. I will fill a 5 gallon bucket with some of the water I've taken out of my DT and clean equipment with it.

I don't save the water. You're probably right about it smelling after a while.

i have "reused" water to clean equipment and rinse media.

I used the waste RO/DI for my garden until my RO/DI completely clogged. Never bother to clean or reset up. I have 3 RO/DI units in my house. LOL
