DIY sump

I'm lookin to build a 20 gallon sump for a frag tank. Anyone have any good input on how to go about this ?

Here's what I consider a very basic 20gal sump I made . It only uses 2 pieces of acrylic with a sponge in between and a sock holder ,which I got on ebay , for the drain . I only made it because my Euroreef skimmer wouldn't fit in my acrylic sump and I didn't want to buy another skimmer. Also I already had the tank.

Not sure if i did this right but try this link..i had to alter the design a little to fit my skimmer, and i had to move the sock holder lower down so that if it clogged it wouldnt overflow over the tank

I'm looking to make a holder for a filter sock. However it seems to be a bit challenging. Also how did u cut your acrylic ? I bought 1/4 inch thick acrylic and it's very challenging cutting..

i used a key hole drill bit to fit the size of the sock...you have to clamp down the acrylic so its firm before drilling..i drilled into my hand trying to hold it and drill it lol..i would assit you but you're to far away

just remember to keep your skimmer in mind when making your baffles..

I gave up trying to make filter sock holder and got one from ebay for I think around $26 .Too much of a PITA to make one like I wanted .I cut my acrylic with a skill saw with a very fine tooth blade.

Yea I think I am going to wait to build the sump untill I have my reactors and protien skimmer and build it around that. I'm picking up the tank today and I can't set it up : ( .. One thing about this hobby is patience !!

just do a manifold, you'll be better off
