That's what my digital thermometer reads. I can't get a chiller right now, is there any other way to cool the tank down. My heater is off. should i get a bag of ice and put it in the sump? :help:

Yes just point it facing the tank or sump and turn it on having it blow across the surface

It doesn't have to be a big fan, one of those $10 clip-on fans will work fine. I have one fan on my 50 gallon and I have not had the tank go above 79 degrees since (it was hovering around 90). The only thing to keep in mind is that there will be much more evaporation than usual, so be prepared.

If you use ice make sure the bag doesn't not leak. Buy a couple of clip on fans from the discount stores since they don't sell them at home depot or target. I'm using three fans for today and the light are off.

I have a/c but forgot to turn it back on when i left to work. I only have the actinic light on, ok so i'll get a clip on fan, I might also try the ice thing, i'll freeze a couple of ziplock bags full of water and then place in the sump.

I got 3 clip on fans going also. Though I also have an AC on.

The gallon might be a good idea - would certainly take longer to melt than a bag of ice. I wonder, too, if you punch a small hole in the gallon - as the water melts it would replenish evaporated water... No? It won't be exact, but depending on how big the system is it may not make a real difference. Just make sure it's RO water. Or spring water, I guess.

i use this method, i do not have a chiller...if u fill a couple of 2 liter bottles with RO water u can freeze it and let it melt out into ur sump or tank...it will top off a bit from the evaporation at those temps

How far from home do you work? I would try to get that AC working it's gonna hit 98 today! Do you have a friend with a key that can run over and turn on the ac? That would be good.

A/C with fans is your best option, outside of a chiller. Fans use evaoprative cooling to effect temperature change. On hot and humid days, this method is not as effective, but still works. An AC unit not only cools the air, but it also acts as a dehumifier, which will make the fans much more effective. You get the benefit of comming home to a cooler room as well.

I think it's already 97 or 98 degree outside. I think your tank might hit higher temperature if there's no AC in your room atm. I also think you should go back home and turn your AC on. Thank god I have a chiller. Only thing that stay cool in our place is my tank. I am working from home and it's still hot with the AC on.
