Engineer Goby and BB

I am currently running a sandbed in my 120, but next month I am going to upgrade to a 180. I plan on going BB with the new tank, and wonder about my fish. I currently have an engineer goby and a watchman goby that LOVE the sand. So my question is, does anyone have these fish in a BB tank? Wondering if I should keep them or pass them along to someone else. Thanks.

I think you would do better passing them off.

Since their species and the sand go hand in hand you might have to get rid of them.

I have two convict gobies in a BB. Very cool fish. They adjust and develop different habits very quickly. They are getting quite large tho. Not having the sand to swim into has made them a lot less shy. They will swim up to me now.

Well, I dropped an email the the WetWebMedia crew and they reply I got back was one that I was hoping not to hear. Looks like they will suffer in a BB tank. Tough getting rid of fish you have been with for a long time.


Sand-Dwelling Gobies and Bare-Bottom Tanks - 07/24/06

I currently have an engineer goby that I have had for about 1 1/2 now in my 120 reef tank. I have a 4" sand bed in the tank. I am planning on an upgrade to a 180, but I plan on going Bare Bottom. I know that the engineer goby burrows in the sand as mine always does, but is this necessary for its life.

So my question is: Can an engineer goby live in a tank with no sand.
