I never had to cure rock before but I bought some live rock from a member and the rock was left in buckets over night so when I got them they didn't smell pretty good so I decided to put them in a brute with some salt water in the basement and now it reeeeeks Lmao. I have 20 gallons of water in the brute with a heater and power head in the dark. I did a 5 gallon water change just now. How long before all the dead matter comes off and the stink to go away LOL. My wife is getting p!ssed off :)

James,
If you have an old skimmer, you could put that in, too. Also, increase the water changes to 50%, 2 x's per week or more. GLWS (good luck with smell!)

Denise

I assume this was from someone's tank. If that is true it shouldn't take that long. After a few days take a stiff brush and brush all the rock. Then replace most of the water. May have to do this a second time. If you have another tank going and you do a water change you can use that water since it will have the benefit of some bacteria in it. And I agree, it belongs in the garage.
