Hey, so I got the tank in shape... kind of. I want to go zoa dominated like all sorts of zoa/paly dominated. I was wondering if going skimerless is okay. Well I have the stock skimmer for the cpr biofilter sump but it doesn't pull out much. Their is algae now on the glass but I would like it a bit controlled. Only issue is sump skimmer compartment is 3-4 inches max. Any suggestions?

Which one would u recommend better? Don't want to skimp out on the reactor because of the $$ and not have the mesh bag work as well. Ive lost a lot of livestock already.

Personally I never use any filtration not even filter floss it's all a waste of $ IMO just do 10% weekly water change that's it. I never had an issue and I used to use chemicals like everyone else but I stopped and nothing changes so its upto u

Yeah if you do water changes.. It removes excess nutrients (food for algae). And raises magnesium which kills algae supposedly, keep your feeding in check and sand bed clean you should be good.

Ok thanks. May go with the media in the filtersock idea and try to get my skimmer tuned up properly. 6 gallons a week not bad.

Stock your tank lightly, feed sparingly, use RODI, and should algae be an issue, look into some sort of phosphate control. I'm partial to GFO in an upward flowing reactor myself. There are a ton of guys maintaining exceptional reefs without any sort of filtration at all.
