Skimmer... sump water level

Hey got a new skimmer. Beast! BM 220a! It says needs a water line at around 9-10". What if the water line in my sump is 6" Highest possible 7".

Cant i just close the output on the skimmer to get the same result which is foam head up around the neck?

no, you will need to raise a baffle for it, id say more to the 8" range, it changes the back pressure and performance of the pump if in to shallow of water
