I set my 1/4 hp Pacific Coast chiller to come on at 81 and off at 79. My chiller's recommended flow rate is min. 600 gph to max. 1000 gph. The PCI chiller is highly restrictive. I run an Eheim 1262 which is rated at 960 gph and I literally feel maybe 400 gph after the chiller. Takes my 1/4 hp 3.5 hrs to cool down 2 degrees for 220 gallons of water.
I might need to look into this cause it don't sound right.

Wow that's a long time for that chiller to be running. I hope it's vented. i can never take that kind of heat.

My chiller is set to turn on at 82 and off when it goes below 81. On humid days it comes on more often, when i run the ac, it helps keep it's operation down. I also have the jbj 1/4hp chiller.

Mag7 gives off lot's of heat. I use to use one and switched to an Ehiem1262(?) which is much less energy needy and heat releasing.

On my 180 I am running a 1/2 HP JBJ in line chiller. Not the quitest on earth but far from loud. Like you said the only downside is that it puts out s lot of heat. I have it set at 80 degrees and it turns on at 81 and off at 79.5. 3 hours is a LONG time for any chiller to be running. I think you might want to get your unit checked out. Maybe see if it needs a freon recharge. I wish they would design a chiller that installs in the wall like a standard AC. That way all the hot air is kicked outside where it belongs!
