So I was browsing through the marketplace and saw a post a member made on a 75g thread. It indicated that he has lied to his wife about SOME of the purchases he's made.

Me, I would never do such a thing. I lie about ALL the purchases I make.

It made me feel good reading his post. For a second it washed away the guilt I feel. Then I got to thinking. ......what if EVERYONE lies about their purchases. Bam! The light bulb over my head shone so bright it exploded. What a great idea for a thread!

So far I haven't gotten caught so I don't have any juicy stories of being
locked in the garage for 3 days or thrown out on my tookus. But you might!

Theres the 20 dollar method, whenever you get asked how much something is, its 20 dollars. Then theres the hitchiker method and playing stupid. Someone in your family notices a new shrimp or frag, so you just say that ypu have bever seen it before or it must of been a hitch hiker.

My wife often goes with me to the stores, she knows the prices, pointless to lie and my son does not help the situation, the kid notices when an existing coral grows a new polyp not to mention when I add something new.

My wife is a bit like STHILL's, if she sees pictures of something or at the store she wants us to add it, I am the one that points out to her the price if its steep and bring her back to her senses.

Wife: Is that a new fish you got there? They look different from the others, they are all white.
Me: No, no, no. Its the same fish, they change colors in the wild, they molt like the bird.
Wife: Don't lie to me. Those are new fish. Why did you get new fish without taking me to the store? I'm going to go purchase the blue one I like and put him in the tank.
Me: Please, please don't do that!

Actually it was my wifes bright idea to have a reef tank. Prior to July 2012 I only had FW aquariums. I warned her this was not going to be a cheap ordeal and you could spend the money on things for yourself, but nope. So her bright idea has now taken me into this sw world and probably not as drastic as a lot of you, but it's added up and a lot, I mean heck the rock alone was 7 per lb and I have 120 lbs of it. The wife doesn't even blink towards the reef other then oh that's nice, this is pretty, I just say yeah I got that for 5 bucks, 10 bucks, keeping it around 50 tops. She shrugs and walks off. But lately she has been inspecting my tank to no end and noticed a new frag, I was stunned and that was it, no more sneaking around :( Regardless it's still her fault this has happened lol. I've been married 19 yrs now, I always get the last word in to, yes dear

@dmitrios91 lol I say yes dear a lot too.....I can't lie about the purchases I make, whether it's new jeans, a jacket or corals eventually it's show and tell me saying look at the good deal I got [insert real price], then she comes back with a "look." She knows I rarely walk out of a LFS without a coral.

i just tell my wife if i don't get it nemo will and can die (she also knows how much i have invested in the tank).... with a sad face :loll:

Its great that my wife loves the tank so its easy to get anything because she enjoys staring at the tank and looking at everything and the colors. But if she doesn't know the exact price of a lot of the equipment

I had a FW tank for years, and when I said I wanted a nano SW she encouraged me to get a 90 gallon... She regretted this decision ever since. She told me "i had no idea you would spend so much time reading and messing around with it" Oh she also ready about the toxins everything produce and she is paranoid about our kid going in there.

Lol yep, we gonna lose either way, it's just a matter of when. Don't send your spouse to the LFS, they eventually get smart enough to look at prices and compare things. Of course the dummies at the store are always like, Oh James, he was just in here, got some really nice stuff, thanks pal, lol
