Have a 34 Gallon RSM140d and just picked up a nice bonded pair of Picasso clowns. I know they don't require it but would like to have something for them to host in. What would you guys recommend? I'm a bit hesitant about going with something like a bubble tip Anemone or other anemone because of tank size. Would a torch or frogspawn work just as well or should I take the chance on an anemone?

Although torches and frogspawn are not their natural host they CAN host them but there is no way to make sure it will happen.

You could go with a BTA in that tank with the regular t-5 lightening. Make sure the one you get didnt come from a tank with strong MH or LEDS. That way it will not try to hide from the light to get acclimated to it.

bubbletip would be best, one thing you have to remember with anemones is there is no definitive max out size.

They will grow to whatever the conditions can handle.

What kinda corals do you have?

Any coral can be fine with a bta, but if the bta moves or touches it, it could kill it (or just make it close up, which in time will kill it). I would wait on an anemone until your tank is established, and by then you may not want a anemone.

How long has the tank been up?

Like rookie said anemones will not each your corals but if they can extend and grip on to them and cover them from light or sting them.

Like you said clowns dont need the anemone but BTAs are the easiest to care for and the most forgiving.

How big are your clowns as well?

BTAs will walk in almost any tank at some point. It you cannot isolate the anemone from your corals, particularly SPS, you will have issues. Plus BTAs will usually grow to a decent size and your tank size is not optimal. I would suggest a long polyp toadstool leather. They can be cut when they grow and the clowns never seemed to bother the coral, they actually helped it shed.

The more mature your tank is the better your tank can handle a more difficult animal like an anemone. I personally recommend waiting 3 months before putting an anemone in.

What else do you plan on keeping in the tank fish wise and corals and inverts.

In a 34 gallon i would lose the chromis and the hawk they arent very hardy and go for the firefish and goby. You dont want to over pack it, and create alga problems. You might be able to sneak in a small wrasse.

Otherwise your stocking sounds good. just give it a little bit of time and then pick up an anemone.
