When the women in my life get involed with a tank build.

So I am upgrading to a bigger tank and my wife and daughter said they wanted to help. This time around they wanted to pick out stuff to make the whole tank look pretty. Oh well I love it that they are involved and this is the outcome so far. They like it but now they are saying its their tank, I think I have lost all control.

When women get involed with a tank build.

Lol that sump and plumbing does look pretty though!

rookie07 08-22-2014 03:17 PM

Chefjpaul 08-22-2014 03:21 PM

Sweet. Could almost pull off a display sump.

bklynreef 08-22-2014 03:38 PM

ssminnow81 08-22-2014 04:12 PM

Look awesome

vincent naval 08-22-2014 04:20 PM

Wow I'm jealous !!!

Arnaldo24 08-22-2014 04:32 PM

Looking neat already!!! I wonder if they will get involved when water change/maintenance time comes!!! Lol

Mark2480 08-22-2014 04:43 PM

Thanks everyone. No way will they get involved in maintenance. I have to do the work, they will just take the credit lol.

CDANN76 08-22-2014 04:56 PM

Looks great. Super tidy. What size DT.

thirty6 08-22-2014 05:44 PM

This is actually ideal: they surely can't get on your case if your taking care of their tank!
I see this as win/win. I'm actually kinda jealous!

Mark2480 08-22-2014 06:01 PM

CDANN76 it's a 180, Thirty6 you are right lol this could be a good thing for me.

duromega 08-22-2014 06:07 PM

wow that looks great just the way it its
water and fish that's it !

Dk638 08-22-2014 06:07 PM

It can't be bad, let them pick out the fish, probably be the most expensive fish you never would have bought! Lol
Nice job by the way, I see you spared no expense on the plumbing, I have the same sump, love it

Mark2480 08-22-2014 06:28 PM

DK638 lol, yea its good to have the wife on board when it comes to the expense but she is letting me go all out because I am giving my 29gal to one of my boys and I am donating my 75 setup to a navy wounded warrior here on the island when he gets home. So my wife is totally onboard.

Mattl22 08-22-2014 07:26 PM

I agree with DK638 I wish my wife would get involved enjoy

Nandez13 08-23-2014 12:15 AM

Wow, that sump..

Pazzoman 08-23-2014 02:13 AM

Take the doors off and display your sump as well!!!

Lmao looks great!

Awesome gesture!

Mark2480 08-23-2014 10:26 AM

My plan is to run 3 Radion G3 pros. I was going to upgrade the G2s I have on the 75 and then add a new g3 but then I would have to get some lighting for the 75 so I can donate a full set up. I don't know yet I will figure it out after I build the canopy. I'm planning on building the canopy but having it attached to the wall and celling and not resting on the tank.

Thank you.

michaelchen 08-23-2014 11:32 AM

you will get some degree of justification when it comes to buy LE corals instead of buying bags. lol

CDANN76 08-24-2014 05:16 PM

Can't wait to see how it turns out. That's the same tank I want to upgrade to within a year or so. Keep up the great work.

Ok just a quick update tank is in place and I built a canopy that is suspended from the walls and celling. My wife and daughter did the aquascape and the tank is up and running. Just need to move things around a bit and build my cabinet to hold all the electrical stuff.

masterswimmer 09-12-2014 01:34 PM

Beautiful job. Awesome gesture with the wounded warrior :)

Only question I've got is, why the check valve? Most find it to be taboo in a SW setup.

vder 09-12-2014 02:19 PM

Did you build the stand for the tank it looks great?

Mark2480 09-12-2014 04:02 PM

masterswimmer, the check valve was suggested to me by my son who ordered the pluming for me, this is the first time I have used one on a setup. We will se how it goes lol.
vder, the stand is from marineland, I built the canopy so I can have more access with the bigger door. I also made it so that the lights can slide back and forth incase I need full access over the tank.

Does your son have reef keeping experience or just FW? Most reefers plumb their systems without check valves. The void space in your sump should be enough space to handle any backflow from a power outage situation and therefore there would be no need for a check valve.

Mark2480 09-12-2014 05:19 PM

That's what I said and how I have always done my tanks. He has a reef tank, but hes in florida so who knows how there doing it over there. I know the sump can handle the back flow without the check valve but he was helping me with the build and I got the "dad you never listen just try it my way" so I gave in (like I have never done this before the kid thinks he knows better than the old man). I told my wife im taking it out the minute the salt water messes it up. In return for being nice as my wife puts it she bought me an Apex so I cant complain lol.

reefer4eva 09-12-2014 05:21 PM

Awesome looking setup!!
One question though...is there any vents on the canopy?

Mark2480 09-12-2014 06:38 PM

As of right now the canopy is about 6 inches bigger than the tank so there is a 3 inch gap on either side so far the humidity in the canopy is the same as in the room but I was planning on cutting out a hole on either side of the canopy and placing a fan inside on one end and having the other serve as a out going vent opening. What do you guys think, should I do it anyway?

lnevo 09-12-2014 07:52 PM

I think you should have your son pop over here so we can hear his thinking...and then shoot him dad and say to listen to your dad :)

Awesome canopy. The tank is looking great!!!! Can't wait to see this unfold!

Mark2480 09-12-2014 10:03 PM

Thanks Inevo, i like that suggestion.

JeSt3r 09-12-2014 11:24 PM
