but people should understand amonia and nitrites should only br present in a new tank until the bacteria has a chance to catch up with it's production.

as it is only the ammonia is toxic to fish, the nitrites and nitrates will do no harm within normal levels.

I will be interested to see how my fuge / DSB cope with the No3 in my tank. It would be great if the levels stayed low. Right now my water is about as clean as it can get, I hope it stays that way. I'll continue to test for No3 each week just to keep track of how the new system is working.

Disagree. Nitrite is considered toxic but not as horrible as ammonia.


How much surface and deep your DSB is? And how much water in your system total?


No2 is toxic in freshwater, not in marine tanks. but like No3 if it gets out of control then it can get dangerous.

it's a small DSB 12x15x7 deep, about 150 gallons total.
there's a lot of macro algae in the fuge also,
