I transferred my contents of my old jbj Nanocube 28 to my new 80gal deep blue rimless setup, along with about 25lbs more live rock and Carib sea "live" sand. Also added 25 gal of water from a well established tank.
It's been about a week and a half and about 3-4 days ago a diatom bloom began. My ammonia has always been at 0, nitrites have had trace-0 readings throughout, and got the last few days, my nitrates have registered a steady .75.

This diatom bloom is getting heavier and heavier, each day. In my past experiences, this is usually at the end of the cycle, as the transfer clearly kickstarted a mini cycle. In the past, I've just left everything alone, besides cleaning te glass, and it passes and all clears on its own. But this time I'm not sure. I kicked my radions down to 40% from 75%, in an effort to calm it down. ALL my corals and fish are happy. At worst, a few pieces are maybe openning 80%, compared to their usual.

Anyone offer any insight into how long this might go on it any suggestions like vacuuming sand (rather not), or light cycle changes.

All tests are doe with Red Sea Pro kits that are new and all water was and continues to be RODI.

I am tagging along because I am having the exact same issue. Only now, I have dino bloom on the LR as well. I am thinking about going dark for 2 days since i noticed in the am the diatom bloom isn't as bad. Maybe someone can chime in. I'd do a water change but my water is near perfect.

This is a normal part of the cycle. Keep phos and nirtaes low, skim, reduced light and it will go away. When you added the new sand it comes along with some die off and phos/nit. The best addition you could make is a fighting conch. They are one of the few things that will eat diatoms and are a must have in a clean up crew. I have 3 in my 125 and they keep the sand spotless.
