How do you lay out sand?
Care to share your reason behind your method?

I slope my sand from back to front so detris tend to roll to the front where more current is so it gets uplifted better n easier accessible for maintenance.

Most of my tanks have uneven patches where I have areas of DSB and area with SSB. I want denitrification from DSB but want more contour for aquascaping purpose. In general, they are sloping from one side o the other.

I let the flow dictate the style it takes. I have a few dunes in there. The sand gets moved around most where the two currents clash. But keep in mind that it's 2 6100 streams in a 75gal tank.

i just let the flow move it around. No point in trying to shape it if you ask me.

lol - mine dug like crazy the first few weeks they were in the tank. buried EVERYTHING! now, they are pretty settled and haven't been digging at all.

True statement... The sandbed I tried at the top of my tank didn't work out too well! :splitspin

I lay it out flat, and evetually the water movement rearranges it.

no rhyme or reasson to it. just put it in. it will get rearranged by your fish, inverts, flow and/or clean up crew.
