Question for you reefers regarding GFO. When you test for phosphates do you guys test your display water? I just tested with my Hanna checker straight out of my reactor and I was very surprised with my result. I really thought that coming straight out of the reactor my reading should be ZERO but it's not. I just put in fresh media 2 days back so like I said I was very surprised when the reading was 0.11.
What you guys think about this?

What was your display P04 level before you changed the media?
Almost sounds as if your media is almost exhausted. Also how much did you use? Enough for the size of your total water volume?
The levels were the same did not change at all. I used what was recommended on the label 1/4 cup per 75 gal so I used a bit more than half cup for my total water volume of 150-160 gal. The media was just put in 2 days back.

i would think you can only lower phos a small amount at a time, for the short time water is in reactor. now you have .14 going in and .11 coming out. if you lower the tank to .11 then you will have .11 going in and .08 coming out. so over time it will bring it lower.
i used the high capasity, i dont know if their is a differance. as far as price the high cap is almost double but you only use half the amount. its good if you have a small reactor.

The hc brs is better and actually comes out to be less in the long run. Just use less and change more often is what I do sometimes ill even take it offline for a bit depending on my readings, im running cheato as well.

UPDATE:

So i went and bought a new set of hanna checker reagents and guess what. I did 3 tests back to back and the results were 0.04, 0.02 and 0.05. then i checked with an old reagent and the test was 0.14, 0.10 and 0.12. Is the old reagent bad? It has expired 4 months back but what can I believe?
Chime in guys when you can...
