ok i am getting ready to build my tank, very undecided on size, currently have a 29g high with hob crp ref, with coral light compact on it a monster old skimmer does good but just doesnt get top skim, 2 { junk} zoo med pumps, oproximitly sp ? 50-60 lb's of lr. and a current compact 130w white moon nd blue moon lights, a reef devil deluxe, a spare 20g high tank was gonna use it for sump, but skimmer is half size of it { go big right } will adjust skimmer run time, wants or plan to buy another 130w compact or a t5 single 12k or something, oddly enough the tank size i really want is a 30x20-24x17 i know odd but like this dimension plus alot less $$$ to have, dont want nothing hard few odd ball's and zoo's polyps and mushroom's maybe a few enineme's and few fish nothing big. i made a posting before along these line's, i dont want or need a proffesional set-up. get a few of the right main component's and tank should almost be self sufficiant. would love to hear thought's idea's or someone who has been at where i want to get at or that is currently set up close to what i described, mh isnt a comparison, so that dont count. your opinions appriciated. ty rick

There is no easy way to reef. If you buy good products that sometimes cost alot initially, you wind up having to do less work later on.
If you break your post down into sections on what you have and explain what you want to keep ppl can give you ideas on what to upgrade and what you dont need to upgrade.

well watever it is. i have a 29 and its my first reeftank. i have had overwhelming sucess with it and i have pcs and mh to supply. as of lately i have had pcs on my tank and they three acro frags i have, have been growing. its hard to say i dont even have a refuge or sump setup since its begining. cant really say but i change my water weekly so this could be y everything in there is growing pretty fast. i had to reduce feedings cause certain corals would grow too fast. there is alot of debate on lights as well so far no problems here with pcs and i have at least one species of every kind of coral in my tank from zoas to acros to clams. i have also been using a css 65 which is cheap but for me it works like a charm. havent had detectable nitrates since my tank cycled. but it could just be what i used and know to get the tank to what it is. i mean trust me if u seen the equipment i have running this thing ud want to laugh and kill me at the same time.

Rick with the stuff that your looking to keep with the exception of the anemone you'll be fine, if you decide later to change your animals then you will have problems, Like a clam for example. you just really need to know what you want so you don't have to spend the money twice. I would NOT invest in MH to Keep Softies. That's just a waist of light, Electricity and money.... as for your return, If your only going with 1 drain and 1 return the mag 7 would be fine. For softies you don't really need alot of water movement

If you are like the rest of us you might want to jsut pay for the high power lighting now cause you will probably want to do somethign more than jsut softies later on.
