Anyone know of a reason you can't mix suppliments with kalkwasser? I'm thinking of addingsmall amounts of Potassium Iodide, Magnesium Cloride and Stronium Cloride with my topoff kalkwasser. Any reasons not to?
This discussion came up today after the glue party... Sobby can explain it far better than me, but the overall was that some additives may precipitate others and render them useless.
Off the top of my head that kinda what I thought too, but then I started to think about it (mistake) and got confused.
In our aquariums we have a mix of all these molecules/ions (mine has a total of 130ish gallons of water but a lot of smaller tanks have just 20-30 gallons or so). What's the harm in having them in a 5 gallon bucket for our top off?
dilution over the larger body of water. Your 5 gallon bucket is a concentrated dose. Diluted in tank water, it's no big deal. All of those chemicals in concentration together in a small bucket, some can cancel each other out. FWIW, they can still cancel each other out in the tank (there is only so much room in ppm). All supplements you mentioned should be dosed separately. Even 2 part needs separate doses, even though technically, one needs the other to be effective.
