cheato not growing

so i finally had my new set up running goin full triton tank has been running up about a month i put my kessil h380 refuge light with some cheato 2 weeks but for some reason my cheato is not growing and looks brown and stringy i have 5 fish in the tank no corals i have the kessil programmed for 12 midnight to 12 in the afternoon

How high do you have the light posted? Is it at full intensity?

There?s no way to control the intensity it?s grow or bloom as far as height how high should it be

If it's too shallow it will burn the chaeto. You should probably have about 12" high if possible. And Maramotts is right. You don't have any nutrients for them to eat. Do you have any live rock in the system cooking?

No live rock at all started all dry rock just put corals in yesterday should I add some bacteria to help with nutrients

You need to introduce fish first. To get the cycling started. I think you're too early for corals.

you should have added bacteria to jump start the tank: dr tims, microbacter 7, turbo 9, etc.

I had 5 chromis in there b4 the cheato plus I added special blend to help with the cycle

I added special blend waited 2 weeks then introduced 5 chromis only 1 chromi died I added 2 tangs a week ago all doin good

What's your nitrite at? I see ammonia and nitrate at 0. You're fully cycled? I didn't add cheato to my tank until at least 6 weeks into my cycle.

did you add any ammonia or phantom feed the first 2 weeks? your tank might not be fully cycled yet. I would just be patient continue regular feeding, test and let everything settle.

I have tried for years and still can't get chaeto to grow. might try algae scrubber but I am just using gfo

Try dosing potassium and iron supplements...

Why did you put the Chato in in the first place?
Do you want to reduce nutrients?
Or do you like growing green stuff?
