I actually talked to the people at Spectra pure about this, after reading the other thread.
They told me I would have to have a pressurized holding tank for all my top off water for it to work they way it should.
They are made for under sink drinking water systems, and for aquariums they are not the way to go.
I wanted to save some bucks also.

I know Jonathan Hale has one, maybe he has figured a way around it.

These only work if you use a pressurized tank to hold your RO water. Most drinking systems use these tanks, but many reefers do not. They basically help to overcome some of the pressure that is needed to push water across the membrane and into the reservoir. If you just use a bucket, the pump doesn't do anything.
Since Cibo mentions that he has a 4 gallon tank, it would help to make your RO system more efficient. I use one for our drinking system, but it wouldn't do anything for my reef system.
Does this make any sense?

I set up the pump before the pump it took 45min to fill a 5gal jug
with the pump it was 30min. the big diffrence I see is that without the pump the water would trickle out when 31/2 gal tank was empty, now when the tank is empty, the water comes out in bursts when you here the pump click, and it seems like the system refills faster, well it I now save a little on water then it is a plus!!

the waste water goes down the drain hard for me to tell but if it is making water faster I feel that more water is getting pushed throught the membrain so that should be less water. all i read about it said it helps!
