Distilled water from the grocery store would work. However, some are stored in copper containers. You would want to test for copper first.

Huz-Do you have a Winn Dixie near by. Before I bought my RO/DI I used to buy Superbrand Distilled Water for .69 cents per gallon. Cheapest I could find anywhere. Any brand of distilled water should be ok IMHO.

I don't know if this is only in California, but the grocery stores out here always have these things in front of them:

They spit out a gallon of RO water for 25 cents. I use them all the time.

thx
the grocery stores in Orlando had the glacier water machines when i lived there, but they never replaced the membrane once it was set up, so it was always loaded w/ phosphates - i hope your grocery store is more responsible w/ it.

i do have winn dixie, i'll have to try the distilled water.

thanks for the info everybody

Just be sure to check what process the water has been through. Not all bottled waters have been purified.

Black Mountain water works great. I've also used Alhambra extensively with no problems.

Huz,

The Glacier machines are all owned and operated by Glacier themselves. I have never had a problem with phosphates or algae with their water. I even tested it a few times with my Salifert kit. They claim the thing can detect dissolved materials and shut itself off if too many are making into the water.

Reading things like this makes me apprecaite more how lucky I am to live in a place where's no reason to not want to drink the water that comes out of the tap.

I always get my water by buying RO from the LFS. Money has been tight so I have not been able to spring for my on RO or RO/DI unit. The LFS won’t give me any water b/c the city shut that neighborhoods water supply down for a few days, so they can’t make enough fast enough to have a surplus.

I’m at the point where I’m desperate for water, and don’t know what to do. Neither one of the local stores has RO units in stock, and I only have $50.00 to spend anyway. Any suggestions??

Pepsi makes Aquafina (bottled water) and it goes through reverse osmosis purification. Perhaps that would tide you over?

i'm sure they are more responsible over there than they are in nowhere, FL where my grocery store was. i got so excited when i found that machine and read the filtering process. wasn't so exited when i had a diatom bloom the day after i put it in, and then a hair algae problem soon after. i took my water to the lfs and it tested high for phosphates. i got those little balls you put in the filter bag, and everything was cool.

Hi Huz. I'm your neighbor(almost). I live in Madison. Try Albertsons on Adkins Drive. They have a water machine that spits out RO/DI water as fast as you can bottle it! They change the filters as needed, so don't worry about the quality. I've been using it since the store opened, and have had no problems. Its only 25 cents per gallon.
