Hi all,

I've recently set up a FOWLR tank, and I've been experiencing a minor alge bloom, mostly redish slime type stuff and nothing overwhelming. I have a coral beauty that seems to enjoy it, there are little month marks all over the glass where it is growing. My girlfriend loves puffers, which means I'll be getting one. My problem is, what can I put in the tank to help with the clean up that won't get eaten by the puffer? The coral beauty alone just isn't cutting it alone.

Thanks,

Ryan

What kind of puffer? Porcupine? Dogface? I've had several dogface puffers with hermits and snails, but my porcupine eats anything with a shell of any kind. And even with a dogface I'm sure its hit and miss.

Chris,
Probably a dog face. My LFS has had one for a while. Maybe I will luck out and it will leave snails alone. Are any puffers better than others in that reguard?

thanks,
Ryan

I've found that most dogfaces of any type act very similar. I've had a Masked Puffer(Red Sea), and 2 gray dogface puffers. All 3 of them pretty much ingnore hermits and snails, but crabs are toast. I was going to experiment with a large brittle star, but I'm afraid it may eat my smaller fish.
