Ok a couple of my fish have just recently been acting weird. They have a jerky kinda muscle twitch swim one minute then swim fine the next. They're still eating and everything. What is wrong? All the water parameters are good to go. Could there be a over population of copepods, argupods, etc.,? Help me out here. Can the salt mix be bad? I have the salinity at 1.024. Whats wrong?

Thanks,
Geoff A.

Geoff,

It sounds like they may be parasitized by Cryptocaryon irritans (saltwater ich). Look very carefully at them to see if you see table salt sized white spots.

Ich would make fish radically shack his head to one side? To me it seems more like a poisoning in the system. Somehow. Tomorrow I am going to go out and buy a new bag of salt mix and do a 50% water change. I did not notice any small white spots on any of them but still how would I treat Marine ich? I do have muchrooms so it would have to be safe for them.

As for the kinds of fish -
4 damsels
1 Yellow Tang
1 Antennata lion

Thanks again,
Geoff A.

Do you have a grounding probe installed in the tank? Stray electricity from power heads, pumps, etc... might cause erratic movement.

Yes, ich can cause violent scratching and shaking in fish.

Do a "search" on hyposalinity for marine ich. You won't always see the tell-tale white spots if the fish is infected internally.
