I have a nikon coolpix 950. I bought a macro off a vendor on ebay. It was like 39 bucks I think and it seems to take good pics. I am sure you can get a much more expensive one but I really haven't been able to tell a difference iin the quality of pic with it on or off. It does give you a neat effect though. Can get a lot more in the shot in a small room for instance although i does give a mere "bubble room" effect.
All the pics on my site are from a Nikon 950. The macro is fantastic on it. I am still learning new stuff with it. I did ask the dealer for a remote switch to shoot pics without having your hand on the camara, but he didn't think one was available. That is one thing I would like to have. Hope that helps...
