I just got this softy coral today and they couldnt tell me the kind it was other then a softy. And that it requires lower lighting so would be best to put in in the lower 1/3 of the tank.. any of you guys out there have any idea what this is??

I cannot see the picture. Something is either wrong with the webb address or how you typed the UBB code.

The picture is hosted somewhere correct?

If you can still open the picture, copy and paste the address here and maybe it will work.

They are hosted on Geocities which won't let you link to them.

Right click on the X and select properties. Then copy the URL and paste it into your browser. Then you can see the pic.

Lot of work eh?

Then when you hit your back button, they will appear in the post.

Too bad Geocities has decided to do that.

BTW, I think your coral is a Capnella sp. It also looks like it is dying of a brown jelly like disease.

ok if it is dying of a brown jelly like disease what can i do to save it?
or is it unable to be saved and doomed?
I just added my calcium and iodine to the tank this morning. As I do every Saturday morning a few hours before the lamps come on.

any thing would help thanks

Soft corals don't really care if you add calcium and iodine.

What I would suggest you do is get that coral in a higher flow area to flush that stuff off. Once the coral is opening again, put it back into a lower flow area.

Looks like some kind of sinularia... but I am no expert.. our two finger leathers do better when they are in some current.. not too strong to push them flat on the side but nice enough to keep the fingers moving. I noticed that when I move my powerhead so it won't go on it, they are not as nice and as opened and once it even half collapsed.I put the power head back and the next day it was back to normal.
As for the jelly, it could be a skin it is shedding. As they do that quite often and both ours did that when we first bought them.. The current will help remove the stuff if it is the same thing.

thanks for the info. Don't have it in a current as of yet becouse it isnt attached to the rock. Advice given to me in reefcentral was to let the frag attach to the rock on its own. as for the brown on the coral. I think it is the way the camera took it.. coral is actually pinkish purple.
any other info would be great also.
