This past weekend I purchased a foxface. He has a black stripe on the top yellow part of his body. It was there in the store but was told that it would go away. I got him anyway since it's been extremely hard for me to find one in any of the stores in my area. Other than that stripe, he looks and acts healthy. I know these fish tend to change colors when startled, but, will this stripe ever go away?

There are several different types of foxfaces but the most common has the black spot on the rear.

If this is the type you have it starts out having no yellow at all. Getting them before they change to the yellow body is the best way of knowing you have a young fish.

If this is the type you have the whole body will become yellow, save the spot and the face. When you turn off the lights and when the foxface feels threatened he will become a dark shade of gray to blend into therocks.

My foxface can in a matter of minutes go from bright yellow to dark and bright yellow again.

I would guees he is only young, a very good thing.

Now that I figured out how to post pics, here is a pic of the foxface and his black shadow-like stripe.
