Heat Problem

In my 92 Gallon Bowfront I have one rio 2100 for circulation and 2 other smaller powerheads. There is also a Mag Drive 1200 in the sump (submerged). I have a temp gauge in the sump and it reads 79 F while the one on the tank reads about 77-78. This is without my 400 watt MH that I am putting on next week. So now I'm really worried about heat. The Halide is cooled by two fans but I'm still thinking the tank will be too warm. Is there a chiller you can put in your stand? Or is there something else I can do besides overloading with fans(I hate topping off all the time)?

You have a couple of powerheads that put off some pretty good heat. This is fairly normal however (I only use powerheads when mixing up my salt for circ. and heat

). If you have two fans on the 400w, it really should not add much heat to the tank. If it does, you can better ventilate the room or add fans. Hope that helps.

It's a customsealife pendent with dual fans so I'm not too worried about that, but I am concerned with all the heat the Rio's are putting out. Is there a better powerhead out there, better as in cooler?

I can tell you from recent experence that that 400 will get hot. Put some fans int he canopy and a fan over your sump.

IME, if you plan on raising SPSs keep your temp down cause if you have a heat spike you will lose them all. I know I just lost approx. 900.00 of SPSs.

I learned the hard way.

I really don't think you'll have that big of a problem. Sounds like you are using a MH strip? or pendants? A unit like that is not likely to throw that much heat into the tank as it will be vented to the surrounding air. I'd guess you'll have no problem keeping the tank between 80-84 degrees.
