Does anyone have input or experience with Bullseye Mushrooms (Discosoma)? We are thinking abour ordering one from Marine Depot Live and wanted to get feedback first. Thank you.
I've had all sorts of mushrooms in the past, not so many now, but all mushrooms are pretty much easy to take care of. You need decent water quality, decent lighting, and they'll do fine. I don't know of any that are difficult to keep if you're adept at reef keeping (or even average!).
Is the picture deceiving, or do they look that bright and nice in person? I've never seen one in person, so I don't know. The picture I am looking at is the one posted on Marine Depot Live.
Yep got about 15 in my tank right now If you want to see them just click the hyperlink at the end of this post that will take you to my website and just click 37 gallon reef in progress this will give you thumbnails of pics IMG00055 is the shrooms (crappy camera but shows the color well and soso definition
Im running 110 watts of pcs on my 37 gallon and they actually prefer the lower light areas near the base of the rock .
Lighting can effect how corals look mine are bright purple with some blue tint under the pc's
very easy to care for and they actually do better when i overfeed the tank a little.
I even took one and cut him into 4 pieces put him in a cup with some live rock rubble and got 4 baby shrooms outta him they are very easy to keep
I started with shrooms moved up to a toadstool leather then a finger leather and am considering what my next purchase should be
I have some I have some purple shrooms green shrooms and a finger leather frag (3in and about 15 stubs on 4 main branchs)to trade if anyone is intrested and local to pittsburgh area
Dave is mostly right- they are hearty and easy to take care of, but the don't need really decent lighting nor really good water quality. PC lighting should be sufficient.
Coloration depends greatly on the type of lighting you have. I have seen some with very bright colors.
