 just got home to find my 40br 2/3 empty luckily all the livestock was below the waterline. the top of the stand is wet and it seems that the water is coming from the bottom of the tank. i drew a line on the tank and the water seems to be stable. at least i'll have time to put everything in a rubbermaid.

Sorry to hear Jon... glad all your livestock is ok. Let me know if you need me to hold anything temporarily. I just set my tank back up and haven't restocked yet, so there's plenty of room.

thanks guys.

the lady from downstairs hasn't complained but she usually lets me know a couple days or a week after i mess up her ceiling.

i'm stumped. the sump wasn't full so i know that the drain and return were working properly.

but if it's cracked why has the water level stopped? why doesn't it keep draining? the whole bottom brace is wet. no water on the floor. there were some pieces of wood behind the stand that were wet but no major puddle on the floor(actually nothing)

i'm very calm @ the moment. i'm not sure if i should fill the tank back up and see what happens or break it down.

it's jsut weird to me. i'm trying to troubleshoot things and i'm confused as hell.

is the tank broke or did something fail?

Sorry to hear, I'd start by inspecting the tank seams. One may have popped one on you and that's why it looks like it stopped. Another option, and this has happened to me, a snail got into my Remora and re-directed water out of the tank.

Jon, sorry to hear that.
that's about 25 gallons of water missing from the tank?
and no sign of it? that's a lot of water to drain below, it has to be some
where. is the floor sloped behind the tank, could it have drained down through the wall?

sorry i meant 1/3. theres about a foot or less of space behind the tank. i dind't see any water on the floor. the wood that was sitting behind the stand was pretty moist, i think that absorbed some of the water. the top of the stand was wet but the sides and back were pretty much dry:confused:

Sorry to hear the bad news!

Was the top of the tank wet along the rim? If so then it seems the water had to go over the top. Is there a powerhead or anything that could have shot the water out of the tank? Other than that I'd go with a leak in the seams and the water draining to the point below the leak.

Eureka! the tank is not broken. i found salt all over the back glass of the tank.

i put a CC star in my fuge the other day and i guess he was trying to get into the display and blocked the fuge output so the fuge overflowed.

the super came to take a look and the first thing he said was, "wow you have an amazing tank!" LOL. i wanted to show him the 120 in my room but thought that would scare him. i hope my downstairs neighbor doesn't try to get us kicked out. i've ruined her living room ceiling w/ my 40br, the kitchen ceiling w/ the ro unit and her bedroom celing when i had crappy plumbing on the tanks in my room.
