lighting question?

i have had one 175 watt m/h over my tank for years. last week i added another 175, my ques , is, with one my corals did great, lots of growth, but they stayed mostly shades of brown , with a second one added will my sps corals start to get more color, oh, yeah ,50 gallon tank 36" long. or would i be better off with one 250 watt, what about heat would one 250 be cooler than my two 175's

I can't speak for the coloration of your corals, but it seems that the 2 175s would provide better coverage for your 36" tank. They will, however, produce more heat than 1 250. The 250 will also provide more intense light, although less in quantity.
